UAE Women Shine in 2025: Empowerment Milestones Celebrated

International Women’s Day, celebrated on March 8, is a global tribute to the achievements and contributions of women across various fields. This year’s theme, “accelerate action,” emphasizes the need for swift progress toward equality and the removal of systemic barriers that women face. In the UAE, women have been trailblazers in multiple sectors, inspiring generations with their resilience and determination.

One such pioneer is Marwa Al Mamari, the UAE’s first aerospace engineer. Initially aiming to become a doctor, Marwa decided to step out of her comfort zone and pursue a career in aerospace engineering. Despite initial uncertainty from her family, she received their support and that of the country’s leadership. Marwa now plays a crucial role at the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), specializing in accident prevention and safety recommendations.

Fatima Al Ameri is another Emirati woman who embodies resilience. As an equestrian athlete, she faced bullying for her riding style but persevered to become known as the “Emirates’ Equestrian.” Fatima made headlines with her horseback salute to President Sheikh Mohamed during the UAE’s National Day celebrations and has also broken barriers in camel racing. She encourages young girls to participate in equestrian sports, emphasizing the importance of proper training.

In the realm of esports, the UAE’s first all-female team made their global debut at the World Esports Championships in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Comprising Moza Khalid, Fatima Al Ansari, and Mariam Al Shamisi, the team felt a sense of responsibility to pave the way for women in esports. Their success is a testament to the support they received from their families and the community.

Meera Al Mheiri, the first Emirati woman to become a nuclear safety inspector at the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR), is another trailblazer. Despite initial challenges, Meera adapted to the demands of her role and continues to volunteer and learn, balancing her work with her hobbies. Her determination and responsibility serve as an inspiration to young women in STEM fields.

These women, among many others, demonstrate the power of perseverance and innovation, contributing significantly to their respective fields and inspiring future generations.
