AD Ports Group and Emirates Global Aluminum (EGA) Expand Khalifa Port Capabilities

Mon, Jun 29, 2026(3h ago)Business

AD Ports Group and Emirates Global Aluminum (EGA) have officially teamed up to invest Dh84 million into the expansion of EGA’s dedicated berth at Khalifa Port. This strategic infrastructure project is designed to upgrade the facility to accommodate Newcastlemax dry bulk vessels, which are capable of carrying up to 20 percent more cargo than the Capesize ships currently in use. By strengthening the berth’s foundation, installing advanced unloading equipment, and conducting necessary dredging, the partners aim to significantly boost the terminal’s cargo-handling capacity and operational efficiency.

Scheduled for completion by August 2028, the upgraded terminal is projected to manage approximately 8 million tons of bulk cargo every year. Leadership from both organizations highlighted that this initiative not only deepens their long-standing partnership but also serves as a vital component in supporting the UAE’s industrial growth. By ensuring the reliable handling of essential raw materials, the investment reinforces the port's role as a key global gateway, ultimately helping EGA maintain a competitive edge in the international aluminum market.
