Independence Day Security Alert: Travelers Advised to Reach Indian Airports Early

Thu, Aug 13, 2026(3h ago)Business

With India gearing up to celebrate its 80th Independence Day on August 15, aviation authorities have implemented stringent security protocols across the country. Major hubs, including Delhi, Mumbai, and Thiruvananthapuram, have issued formal advisories urging both domestic and international passengers to plan their travel ahead of time. These heightened measures are expected to remain in effect through August 20, leading to more rigorous screening processes and potential bottlenecks at security checkpoints.

To avoid missing flights or facing unnecessary stress, major carriers like Air India, SpiceJet, and IndiGo are encouraging travelers to arrive well ahead of their scheduled departures. The airlines have highlighted that additional time should be factored in for parking, check-in queues, and secondary security screenings. Passengers are strongly advised to keep their identification and boarding passes easily accessible and to strictly follow baggage guidelines to ensure a smoother and faster transit through the terminals during this high-alert period.
