What to Expect from the iPhone 18: Early Rumors and Potential Changes

Thu, Jul 2, 2026(3h ago)Technology

Following the anticipated release of the iPhone 17 and the ultra-slim iPhone Air, excitement is already building around the iPhone 18 series. While these devices aren't expected until late 2026, rumors suggest a departure from Apple’s traditional launch schedule. Reports indicate that while the Pro models and a potential foldable version may arrive in September 2026, the standard iPhone 18 and an entry-level "18e" might be delayed until the spring of 2027. This strategy could be an attempt to push customers toward higher-end devices, though it remains to be seen if Apple will maintain its current $799 and $1,099 entry points for the base and Pro models, respectively.

Visually, the iPhone 18 is expected to be more of a refinement than a revolution. Design leaks point to a potential transparent rear glass finish, and there is significant chatter about Apple finally moving toward under-display Face ID, which would minimize or eliminate the Dynamic Island in favor of a cleaner punch-hole camera. Photography enthusiasts can look forward to a 24-megapixel selfie camera across most of the lineup, along with a sophisticated variable aperture system for the Pro models. While these features are still in the rumor phase, the combination of hardware tweaks and a staggered release schedule suggests that Apple is planning a major shift in how it positions its flagship phones over the coming years.
