Instagram Testing New Features to Give Users More Control Over Feeds
Instagram is currently experimenting with ways to provide users with greater influence over their Reels and main feed recommendations. Adam Mosseri, the head of the platform, recently shared that the company is exploring more intuitive access points for its "Your Algorithm" settings. The goal is to make these personalization tools a seamless part of the browsing experience, with prototypes including quick-action buttons under videos and gesture-based menus that allow users to instantly signal their preferences for specific content.
While these updates aim to offer a more tailored experience, they have sparked a conversation about user agency and transparency in social media. Many Instagram users remain vocal about wanting a purely chronological feed that prioritizes content from the accounts they actively follow, rather than relying on AI-driven suggestions. Meta has noted that these features are currently in the experimental phase, meaning they could be refined, rolled out to the public, or abandoned entirely depending on testing results.
