Microsoft Offers Voluntary Buyouts to Staff Amid Strategic AI Pivot
In a strategic move to sharpen its focus on artificial intelligence, Microsoft has introduced a voluntary buyout program affecting approximately 60,000 employees. The initiative, which is time-limited, targets staff at level 70 and below across specific regions, including the United States, the United Kingdom, India, and Canada. This decision follows insights gathered from previous retirement programs and is designed to streamline operations as the tech giant reallocates resources toward its expanding AI ventures.
The exit packages are being offered to personnel within several core divisions, such as Copilot, AI experiences, finance, human resources, Xbox, and the Windows + Devices unit. Notably, the program does not extend to employees working in security, commercial business, or marketing sectors. By facilitating these voluntary departures, Microsoft aims to realign its workforce composition to better support its long-term goals in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.
