Spotify to Introduce AI Persona Badges to Boost Transparency
In a move to address growing listener concerns, Spotify announced that it will begin rolling out "AI Persona" badges starting in mid-September. The platform noted that many users have expressed frustration after discovering that the artist profiles they believed to be human were, in fact, computer-generated. By introducing these clear labels, the streaming giant aims to prioritize transparency and help its audience distinguish between human musicians and artificial creations.
This initiative follows the company's previous rollout of the "Verified by Spotify" badge, which was designed to confirm the authenticity of legitimate artist profiles. Moving forward, the platform plans to automatically apply these new AI markers to relevant accounts, while also allowing creators to self-disclose their AI status. Furthermore, to maintain a human-centric listening experience, Spotify has confirmed that it will restrict AI personas from appearing in its editorial and personalized recommendation feeds, unless a user explicitly chooses to follow a specific AI account.
