Powerful Aftershock Rattles Philippines' Sarangani Region
A magnitude 5.7 earthquake shook the waters near the Sarangani region in the southern Philippines on Saturday morning. According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), the tremors were felt around 10:05 am local time. The seismic activity originated at a depth of 10 kilometers, with the epicenter pinpointed approximately 21 kilometers northwest of Balut Island.
Experts from Phivolcs have classified this event as a tectonic earthquake. They further clarified that this incident is a direct aftershock linked to the major 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck off the coast of Sarangani back on June 8, 2026. Authorities continue to monitor the area for any further seismic activity.
