Trump Announces Imminent US-Iran Peace Deal and Hormuz Strait Reopening

Sat, Jun 13, 2026(2h ago)World

Former President Donald Trump has announced that a significant peace agreement with Iran is slated for signing on Sunday, June 14, promising that the Strait of Hormuz will be reopened to international traffic immediately following the formalization of the pact. Sharing the update via Truth Social, Trump emphasized that the primary goal of this deal is to serve as an impenetrable barrier against Iran’s nuclear ambitions, ensuring the country can neither develop nor acquire nuclear weapons by any means. He further contrasted this arrangement with the previous administration’s policies, asserting that this new deal involves no financial exchanges, unlike the cash transfers associated with the Obama-era JCPOA.

Despite the optimistic tone from Washington, the situation remains fluid. While Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, acting as a mediator, echoed the hope for an imminent resolution, conflicting reports have emerged from the Iranian Foreign Ministry questioning the timeline for the signing. Trump maintained a firm stance, noting that while he hopes for a smooth diplomatic process, the United States remains prepared to intervene against Iran’s nuclear infrastructure if necessary. He specifically mentioned plans to eventually secure and neutralize enriched uranium, underscoring that while he prefers a peaceful outcome, he views the deal as a necessary step toward stabilizing the volatile region.
