Tragedy at Ras Laffan: QatarEnergy Confirms Fatal Industrial Accident

Tue, Jun 23, 2026(4h ago)World

QatarEnergy has officially confirmed that a tragic industrial incident at its Ras Laffan facility resulted in the deaths of 13 individuals and left 66 others injured. The victims included nationals from India and Pakistan, while the injured represent a diverse group of workers from countries including Qatar, Bangladesh, Kenya, Ghana, Tanzania, Nigeria, and Nepal. The company emphasized that the incident was strictly operational and ruled out any possibility of sabotage. Operations at the Barzan plant had only recently resumed following a maintenance shutdown that began in December 2025.

Emergency crews and Qatar Civil Defence successfully contained the fire, and officials have confirmed that the explosion did not impact the nation’s wider LNG export capacity, port operations, or logistics infrastructure. An investigation is currently underway to pinpoint the exact cause of the disaster. In the wake of the tragedy, the Indian and Pakistani embassies in Doha have established emergency hotlines to provide assistance to affected families, while the UAE and other international partners have expressed their solidarity and deepest condolences to all those impacted by this devastating event.
