US Imposes New Sanctions on Entities in India and Turkey Over Iran Ties
The U.S. Treasury Department has rolled out a fresh round of sanctions targeting individuals and companies across India and Turkey, accusing them of facilitating support for the Iranian government. This move is part of the broader "Operation Economic Outcast," an initiative by the Trump administration designed to cripple Iranâs ability to fund its ongoing conflicts by restricting its oil revenue. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent emphasized that the U.S. remains committed to tracking down and penalizing any party that aids Tehranâs operations, whether through maritime, aerial, or commercial channels.
The measures specifically target an India-based network led by Suniel Kumar Sharma and his wife, Jaspreet Preeti Shahid, who are accused of operating a sophisticated scheme involving fraudulent maritime certifications. By using fake flag registries and deceptive documentation, these entities allowed vessels connected to the Iranian military and its proxies to bypass international safety and environmental regulations. Simultaneously, the U.S. sanctioned Turkey-based Fugo Ground Services Inc. for providing logistics support to several Iranian airlines currently under U.S. restrictions. These sanctions, which freeze U.S.-linked assets and threaten penalties for any foreign entities that assist in these illicit activities, signal an aggressive continuation of Washington's economic warfare policy despite recent domestic political challenges.
