UN Maritime Agency Launches Rescue Mission for Stranded Sailors in the Gulf

Wed, Jun 24, 2026(3h ago)World

The International Maritime Organisation (IMO) has announced a major humanitarian effort to evacuate over 11,000 sailors currently trapped in the Gulf as a result of the ongoing regional conflict. According to IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez, this complex operation is being coordinated through a collaborative effort involving the United States, Iran, Oman, and other coastal nations, alongside key stakeholders within the maritime industry.

To ensure the success of the mission, the IMO has confirmed that it has obtained critical safety assurances and meticulously verified navigation routes. By working closely with regional partners, the organization aims to mitigate the risks these crew members face and secure their safe departure from the affected waters.
