Tragedy in Yemen: Al Arabiya Correspondent Killed in Targeted Car Bombing

Thu, Jun 25, 2026(3h ago)World

A correspondent for the Saudi-based Al Arabiya news network, Mohammed Aydah, was killed late Wednesday after a bomb detonated in his vehicle in the city of Mukalla, located in Yemen’s eastern Hadramout governorate. The network reported that Aydah, a Yemeni national who also contributed to the sister channel Al Hadath, had been warned by local security officials about threats to his life just one month prior to the attack. As of now, no organization has officially stepped forward to claim responsibility for the assassination.

In the aftermath of the killing, Yemen’s presidential leadership council head, Rashad al-Alimi, has ordered the creation of a high-level committee to launch an investigation, vowing to hold the perpetrators accountable. Meanwhile, the Southern Transitional Council (STC) issued a statement condemning the violence, suggesting the incident highlights a deteriorating security climate in the region. This somber event reinforces the Committee to Protect Journalists' assessment that Yemen remains one of the world's most perilous environments for media workers, a reality that has only intensified since the nation’s protracted conflict began in 2014.
