Sri Lanka’s Tea Exports to the UAE See Consistent Growth
Sri Lanka has seen a promising uptick in its tea trade with the United Arab Emirates, with export volumes climbing by 3.3 percent in 2025 to reach 18.32 million kilograms. This steady progress was highlighted by Dr. Arusha Cooray, the Sri Lankan ambassador to the UAE, during an International Tea Day celebration in Abu Dhabi. She noted that the enduring reputation for quality and authenticity continues to drive demand, positioning Sri Lankan tea for further expansion across the UAE and the broader GCC region. While Iraq currently leads as the top destination for these exports, the steady performance in the UAE underscores its importance as a key trade partner.
The event, which brought together industry stakeholders, diplomats, and tea experts, served as a platform to celebrate the unique heritage of Ceylon tea. Attendees were treated to insights into the sustainable practices and distinct flavor profiles that define the seven tea-growing regions of Sri Lanka. With major industry players like Dilmah and Akbar Tea showcasing their products, the gathering not only fostered stronger economic ties between the two nations but also reinforced the global competitive standing of Sri Lankan tea through interactive tasting sessions and networking.
