Kratos’ Future Secured: Santa Monica Studio Confirms Next God of War Entry
Good news for fans of the Ghost of Sparta: Kratos is officially sticking around. During a panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, Santa Monica Studio’s creative head, Cory Barlog, confirmed that a new game centered on Kratos is currently in development. This upcoming project is set to act as a direct narrative successor to the highly anticipated God of War: Laufey, ensuring that the Spartan’s story remains a central pillar of the franchise despite the studio exploring new perspectives.
God of War: Laufey, which is slated for a February 16, 2027 release on PS5, focuses on the journey of Kratos’ wife, Faye, as she navigates the afterlife known as the "Everywhen." While this entry shifts the spotlight to Faye, Barlog clarified that the game is not a side project; rather, it is a crucial bridge that sets the stage for the next major installment in the series. Beyond this, fans can also look forward to the previously announced remakes of the original Greek trilogy, proving that Santa Monica Studio has plenty of plans for the franchise’s future as they continue to flesh out the saga.
