Ajman Celebrates Islamic New Year with Extended Weekend for Public Employees
Government workers in Ajman are set to enjoy a paid day off on Monday, June 15, 2026, in observance of the Islamic New Year (Hijri 1448 AH). According to the Ajman Government Human Resources Department, all public departments and institutions will remain closed for the occasion. Since this holiday falls on a Monday, staff members who typically observe a Saturday-Sunday weekend will benefit from a convenient three-day break before returning to their official duties on Tuesday, June 16.
This announcement aligns with the broader UAE-wide directive from the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources and the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, which has declared the same date a public holiday nationwide, including for public sector employees in Dubai. The date marks the beginning of the Hijri year, with the sighting of the Muharram crescent moon expected to coincide with the holiday. While visibility of the moon will vary across different global regions, the official declaration ensures a synchronized celebration of the new Islamic year across the emirates.
