Sharjah authorities have launched a stern reminder to parents regarding vehicle safety after observing alarming trends on the roads. In a recently shared video, police highlighted several dangerous incidents, including a child being allowed to sit on a driver’s lap, which poses a severe risk during sudden stops or collisions. Officials have clarified that children who are 10 years old or younger, or those standing under 145cm tall, are strictly prohibited from occupying the front passenger seat.

Under UAE traffic regulations, keeping children in the back seat is not merely a recommendation but a legal requirement aimed at preventing tragic accidents. The law mandates that children under four must be secured in an approved car seat, while older children up to age 10 must always ride in the rear of the vehicle. Drivers who neglect these safety protocols, or fail to ensure all passengers are buckled up, face a Dh400 fine and four black points on their license. Authorities continue to stress that following these guidelines is a critical responsibility for all motorists to ensure the wellbeing of their families.
