Proposed Iran-US Deal Outlines Path for Sanctions Relief and Nuclear Oversight
A senior Iranian official has disclosed that a draft memorandum of understanding is currently being negotiated with the United States, potentially paving the way for a major geopolitical shift. According to the proposal, the agreement focuses on de-escalating regional tensions, most notably through the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to commercial traffic in exchange for the removal of US naval blockades. The draft also establishes a 60-day window following the initial signing to iron out the finer details of a comprehensive final treaty.
Under the terms of this draft, significant financial relief is on the table, including the waiving of US oil sanctions to allow Iran to resume exports and the release of $25 billion in currently frozen Iranian assets. In return, Tehran has pledged to halt the further expansion of its nuclear program and abandon any ambitions to develop nuclear weaponry. Washington has also signaled a willingness to coordinate with regional partners on a development plan for Iran, provided the country adheres to the terms of the agreement and maintains its current uranium enrichment status until a permanent settlement is reached.
