Major Industrial Explosion Rocks Qatar’s Ras Laffan Facility

Mon, Jun 22, 2026(45d ago)World

A significant industrial accident occurred this past Sunday in Qatar’s Ras Laffan Industrial City, resulting in a devastating explosion and fire at the Barzan local gas supply facility. According to officials from the interior ministry and state-owned QatarEnergy, the incident was triggered by a technical malfunction during the facility's start-up operations. The blast left 54 individuals injured, and emergency response teams are currently engaged in an intensive search for 18 people who remain missing.

In an effort to reassure the surrounding communities, the interior ministry characterized the event as an internal explosion and explicitly stated that there is no risk of hazardous leaks or chemical releases threatening public safety. While authorities continue to investigate the exact cause of the technical failure, search and rescue operations remain the primary focus in the industrial zone to locate those unaccounted for.
