Delhi Police Officer Suspended Following Rare Force-Led Protest
A senior Delhi Police officer, Assistant Commissioner Manasvi Vashistha, has been placed under immediate suspension following an unprecedented demonstration outside the force’s headquarters. On Monday, approximately 150 police personnel gathered to protest the transfer of Vashistha and another officer, which had been ordered following a volatile clash between police and lawyers last month. The confrontation, which originated from a seemingly minor parking dispute outside a salon, escalated into a series of counter-allegations involving claims of assault, bribery, and misconduct, ultimately forcing the police administration to reassign the officers in an attempt to appease striking legal professionals.
The Ministry of Home Affairs confirmed the suspension via an official order, citing ongoing departmental proceedings against Vashistha. While the officer has defended the protest as a necessary stand against the intimidation and "hooliganism" faced by law enforcement, the situation reflects a growing tension between the two branches of the justice system. This latest flare-up bears a striking resemblance to the massive 2019 protests at the same headquarters, highlighting deep-seated systemic friction that threatens to undermine courtroom security and public order in the capital.
