Bahraini Court Convicts Trio in Massive Terror Financing and Money Laundering Case
A Bahraini court has handed down severe sentences to three individuals involved in a sophisticated illicit banking operation that funneled millions to fugitives hiding in Iran. The primary defendant received a life sentence, along with a seven-year term for money laundering, and faces combined fines and asset forfeitures exceeding 22 million Bahraini dinars. Two accomplices were also sentenced to three years in prison each for their roles in facilitating these unauthorized financial activities.
The investigation, led by the Financial Crimes and Money Laundering Prosecution, uncovered a complex network that operated over five years. The main culprit used his bank accounts and various cryptocurrency platforms to move funds across borders, ultimately providing over 2.7 million dinars to known "terrorists" residing in Iran. During the trial, the defendants confessed to the charges after authorities seized digital evidence and traced the illicit transactions, confirming that they knowingly bypassed banking regulations to support criminal fugitives.
