Monaco Rocked by Targeted Bombing Targeting Wealthy Businessman

Tue, Jun 30, 2026(3h ago)World

Authorities in Monaco and France have launched an intensive manhunt following a targeted explosion on Monday evening that left several individuals injured, two of them in critical condition. The blast, which occurred just before 9 p.m. in the heart of the luxury microstate, is being treated as a high-priority criminal investigation. Local officials, including Monaco’s minister of state Christophe Mirmand, expressed shock over the event, noting that such violence is unprecedented in the principality. Surveillance footage reportedly captured a suspect abandoning a backpack at the entrance of a residential building moments before the detonation, leading authorities to categorize the device as a makeshift parcel bomb.

While investigations are ongoing, media reports suggest the attack was aimed at Vadym Yermolaiev, a prominent real estate developer originally from Dnipro, Ukraine. Yermolaiev, who transitioned to Cypriot citizenship after leaving Ukraine, has been a figure of public scrutiny, having been hit with Ukrainian sanctions late last year. Prince Albert of Monaco has condemned the incident as an "odious act," and a cross-border security operation is currently underway between French and Monegasque forces to track down the fleeing perpetrator. Emergency teams remain on the ground as the normally tranquil tax-haven deals with the aftermath of this rare and alarming security breach.
