Filipinos Traveling to Oman Exempted from HIV Test Requirement
The Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has officially announced that Filipino travelers visiting Oman under the 14-day visa-free entry policy are no longer required to present a negative HIV medical certificate. This policy update follows active diplomatic efforts by the DFA, which had been in discussions with the Omani Embassy since the mandate was first introduced in March 2024. The department lauded the decision as a reflection of the strengthening bond and positive bilateral relations between the two nations.
This change is expected to ease travel logistics for the thousands of Filipinos who visit the Sultanate annually, whether for tourism or to visit the roughly 50,000-strong Filipino community already residing there. With over 55,000 Filipino visitors recorded in 2024, the removal of this requirement is a significant relief for both travelers and airlines, which previously had to enforce the medical check at departure. The move underscores Oman’s continued openness to Filipino visitors, who play a vital role in both local industries and the Philippine economy through their substantial annual remittances.
