15-Year Sentence Upheld for Kuwaiti Man Following Fatal Dispute Over 2 Dinars

Wed, Jul 29, 2026(45d ago)World

A Kuwaiti court has officially confirmed a 15-year prison sentence, including hard labor, for a man involved in the tragic death of a local shopkeeper. The incident stemmed from a trivial dispute over a mere two Kuwaiti dinars. According to court records, the defendant attempted to flee without paying for his goods, leading to a confrontation where he trapped the victim’s arm in his car window. He then dragged the shopkeeper for roughly 30 meters before opening the window to release him, causing the victim to fall and sustain fatal injuries.

While the defense suggested the outcome was unintended, prosecutors argued that the defendant's actions amounted to intentional murder committed during the commission of a theft. Investigators also uncovered a history of criminal activity, noting that the perpetrator had prior convictions for drug offenses and theft. Furthermore, the man had attempted to evade capture by using stolen license plates and later repainting his vehicle to mask its identity. Ultimately, the court ruled that despite the claim of lacking lethal intent, the defendant’s violent actions directly caused the shopkeeper's death, warranting the lengthy custodial sentence.
