Philippines Brings Home 117 Workers from Saudi Arabia Amid Rising Regional Instability
In response to the escalating security crisis across the Middle East, the Philippine government has successfully repatriated 117 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from Saudi Arabia. The group touched down at Ninoy Aquino International Airport on Sunday, October 25, via Gulf Air and Qatar Airways. Upon their arrival, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) provided essential support, including immediate medical care, financial aid, and logistical assistance to ensure the workers could safely return to their home provinces.
This mission is part of a broader government effort, spearheaded by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., to pull citizens out of harm's way as Houthi militants continue their frequent drone and missile strikes on Saudi infrastructure. These violent attacks, which have targeted airports and oil facilities, have resulted in numerous casualties and significant regional alarm. Following a deadly incident at King Khalid International Airport earlier this month, the DMW accelerated its UPLIFT initiative, successfully assisting over 400 Filipinos and their dependents in returning home safely throughout late October.
