Philippines Places Record 50 Million Peso Bounty on Senator Ronald dela Rosa
The Philippine government has officially issued a staggering 50-million-peso bounty for information leading to the capture of Senator Ronald dela Rosa, marking the largest reward for an individual in the nationâs history. Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla has officially classified the senator as "armed and dangerous," citing his extensive background as a former Scout Ranger and his personal collection of over 100 firearms. Authorities fear that a forceful attempt to apprehend the senator, who is wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for his alleged role in crimes against humanity alongside former President Rodrigo Duterte, could trigger a violent standoff or even a civil conflict surpassing the scale of the 2017 Marawi siege.
Dela Rosa, who has been in hiding since a failed arrest attempt in May 2026, is believed to be sheltered by loyalists in his home region of Mindanao. While the Philippine National Police has issued a one-week ultimatum for his surrender, the move has caused significant friction within the Senate. Several of his colleagues have publicly questioned the necessity of the massive bounty, urging the Marcos administration to prioritize peaceful negotiations over a potentially bloody confrontation. Should he be successfully apprehended, Dela Rosa is expected to be extradited to The Hague to stand trial alongside Duterte for their involvement in the mass killings that occurred during their nationwide anti-drug campaign.
