Tragic Discovery: Remains of Renowned Climber Nirmal Purja Recovered on Broad Peak

Sun, Aug 2, 2026(45d ago)World

In a somber update, the Alpine Club of Pakistan announced on Sunday that search teams have recovered the body of world-famous mountaineer Nirmal Purja. Purja and nine other members of his expedition team were caught in a catastrophic avalanche earlier this week while navigating the treacherous slopes of Broad Peak in northern Pakistan.

Rescue personnel successfully reached the site at an elevation of approximately 5,700 meters to retrieve the fallen climber. In a poignant statement shared on social media, the Alpine Club expressed their grief, noting that the mountain had ultimately claimed the life of a man who held a deep affection for the peak. The organization’s general secretary has since confirmed that the recovery mission successfully located Purja along with three of his fellow team members.
