5.9-Magnitude Earthquake Hits Off the Coast of the Philippines

Thu, Aug 6, 2026(45d ago)World

The Philippines was rattled by a 5.9-magnitude earthquake earlier today, striking roughly 32 kilometers southwest of the island of Sarangani. According to data provided by the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the tremor occurred at a relatively shallow depth of 10 kilometers. Fortunately, initial reports indicate that there have been no injuries or significant structural damage resulting from the event, and no tsunami warnings were issued following the activity.

This seismic event marks the second time the region has experienced an earthquake in just two days, following a 6.4-magnitude tremor recorded on August 5. While residents remain on high alert due to the country’s frequent seismic activity, officials have confirmed that the situation remains under control. Authorities continue to monitor the area for any potential aftershocks as communities begin to assess the impact of the latest shake.
