Tragedy Strikes: NBC News Helicopter Crashes in Los Angeles
A devastating incident unfolded in the Chatsworth area of Los Angeles on Tuesday evening when a news helicopter belonging to NBC Los Angeles went down. During a live broadcast, anchors confirmed that the aircraft, identified as NewsChopper 4, lost contact shortly before 7 p.m. and ultimately crashed. The Los Angeles Fire Department reported that four individuals were involved in the accident; tragically, three were pronounced dead at the scene, while a fourth person was transported to a local hospital in an undisclosed condition.
The crash occurred in the same vicinity where several news crews had gathered to cover a fatal collision between a Metro bus and a passenger vehicle that had taken place earlier that day. Federal authorities, including the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration, have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the helicopter disaster. In the wake of these back-to-back tragedies, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass expressed her deepest condolences to the victims’ families and commended the emergency teams for their rapid response efforts.
