Saudi Arabia Confronts Falling Debris Following Houthi Missile Interceptions
Saudi Arabia’s Civil Defence recently reported that debris from two intercepted ballistic missiles, launched by Houthi forces toward Makkah and Madinah, scattered across multiple residential and remote areas. According to official reports, the shrapnel landed in locations including Wadi Al-Maghmas, Jeddah’s Al-Nuzha neighbourhood, Taif, and Rabigh. While authorities successfully managed the situation according to established safety protocols, the Houthi militia has denied targeting the Kingdom's sacred sites, despite the military’s confirmation of the interception.
This incident is part of an ongoing pattern of security challenges involving Houthi-led attacks near sensitive religious and infrastructure sites. Earlier this month, the Saudi-led coalition identified a drone strike on an electricity distribution station in Madinah that serves the Prophet’s Mosque, along with a separate thwarted drone attempt near Makkah back in September. While the Houthis continue to dispute these allegations, the recurring nature of these threats has kept regional authorities on high alert, frequently issuing safety warnings across major cities like Jeddah, Yanbu, and Tabuk to protect both the public and these historic landmarks.
