Oman Imposes 30-Litre Fuel Cap Near Border Stations

Thu, Oct 29, 2026(56m ago)World

The Omani Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion has introduced a temporary measure restricting fuel purchases to 30 litres at petrol stations located within 50 kilometres of the country’s border crossings. This decision, backed by the National Subsidy Committee, aims to alleviate supply shortages caused by a recent spike in demand. While the restriction limits the amount per individual transaction, officials have clarified that motorists are permitted to refill their tanks more than once throughout the day.

This initiative is designed to stabilize fuel availability at border-adjacent stations, prevent long queues, and ensure that these outlets can continue serving the public without interruption. The government is working closely with the Ministry of Energy and Minerals and local petroleum companies to monitor the situation. Importantly, this cap is strictly limited to the border zones, meaning drivers across the rest of the Sultanate will face no changes to their refueling experience. Meanwhile, authorities remain vigilant, recently taking legal action against four stations for violating separate regulations regarding fuel transport tankers.
