Easing the Daily Commute: Major Upgrades Planned for Al Nahda and Ittihad Road
The UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure has officially invited contractors to bid on a significant infrastructure project aimed at transforming the Al Nahda Intersection and the E11 Ittihad Road. By upgrading these critical corridors, the government intends to drastically reduce the notorious traffic congestion that plagues commuters traveling between Dubai and Sharjah. Beyond merely cutting down travel time, the initiative is designed to bolster road safety standards and ensure the long-term efficiency of this vital transit link, supporting the nation’s broader goals for sustainable development.
This move comes as part of a wider commitment by the UAE to invest billions in modernizing its transport network, including bridges and highways. Complementing these federal efforts, the Sharjah government is also pushing forward with its own Dh750 million road improvement plan, which includes enhancements to the Al Taawun Tunnel and Noor Road. These local and federal projects, slated for completion by the end of the year, are being managed through a collaborative effort involving the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority and various local agencies, marking a concerted push to finally streamline mobility across these high-traffic emirate borders.
