UAE Calls for Unified Regional Strategy at High-Level GCC-US Summit
Lana Nusseibeh, Minister of State, represented the UAE at a pivotal joint ministerial meeting between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the United States, chaired by Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Dr. Abdullatif Al Zayani and attended by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The discussions centered on addressing regional security threats, specifically Iran’s aggressive actions and the illegal obstruction of the Strait of Hormuz. Emphasizing the necessity of a collective approach, Nusseibeh argued that any framework for lasting peace must incorporate the direct input of Gulf nations, who bear the brunt of regional volatility. She underscored that maritime security is non-negotiable, labeling disruptions to trade and energy supplies as acts of piracy that undermine global stability.
Beyond security, the meeting addressed pressing humanitarian and political crises in the region. Nusseibeh reiterated the UAE’s commitment to supporting Lebanon’s state institutions and advocated for an inclusive political transition in Syria to foster long-term reconstruction and stability. Regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, she championed a credible political path forward anchored in the two-state solution. By calling for the full implementation of UN Security Council resolutions, the UAE reaffirmed its stance that regional prosperity depends on upholding international law and ensuring that all diplomatic efforts reflect the lived realities and security needs of the people in the Middle East.
