UAE Foreign Minister Urges Diplomacy Following US-Iran Agreement
The United Arab Emirates’ Foreign Minister, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, recently engaged in a diplomatic phone call with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, to discuss the shifting regional landscape. Following the recent Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between the United States and Iran, Sheikh Abdullah highlighted the necessity for all parties to strictly adhere to the terms of the deal. He underscored that the path forward for global and regional stability must be paved with responsible dialogue and a commitment to earnest diplomacy.
The landmark MOU, finalized earlier this month by President Donald Trump and President Masoud Pezeshkian, seeks to de-escalate tensions that have defined recent months. The agreement mandates a cessation of hostilities across all fronts, including Lebanon, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and a 60-day window to initiate nuclear negotiations. By committing to lift oil sanctions and facilitating a multi-billion dollar reconstruction fund upon the successful conclusion of nuclear talks, the agreement aims to resolve the intense standoff that disrupted global shipping and halted commerce through the critical Strait of Hormuz.
