Bahrain Sentences 12 Individuals to Decade-Long Prison Terms for Iran-Linked Activities
A Bahraini high court has handed down ten-year prison sentences to 12 individuals found guilty of involvement in activities linked to Iranian interests. In addition to the incarceration, the court imposed fines of 2,000 dinars on several of the defendants and ordered the seizure of all related evidence. The charges stemmed from a coordinated effort to support Iranian attacks against the Kingdom, which included the unauthorized photographing of restricted sites, the dissemination of sensitive data, and the widespread circulation of misinformation designed to incite panic and disrupt public stability.
The legal proceedings were initiated after the cybercrime department flagged multiple social media accounts that were actively promoting hostile content and spreading rumors intended to demoralize the public. Following a thorough investigation—which involved forensic examination of seized electronic devices and expert analysis—authorities successfully identified the operators behind these accounts. Throughout the subsequent trial at the High Criminal Court, the defendants were provided with full legal representation and the opportunity to present their defenses before the court reached its final verdict.
