UAE Diplomat Highlights Need for Rational Dialogue Amid Regional Conflict

Sun, Sep 13, 2026(1h ago)World

Anwar Gargash, a senior advisor to the UAE President, recently emphasized the significance of the meeting between Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in New Delhi. Gargash described the engagement as a vital step during a precarious time, noting that it reflects the UAE’s strategic commitment to balancing deterrence with diplomacy. He argued that true regional security requires both elements, as diplomacy is only effective when backed by a position of strength, while pure force lacks the sustainability of negotiated peace.

During the summit, President Pezeshkian’s call for regional cooperation and his expressed desire for dialogue were seen by UAE officials as a notable shift toward rationality. Despite the ongoing tensions and the expiration of key agreements between Iran and the US, these diplomatic signals suggest a potential path away from the current cycle of hostility. As the region continues to grapple with the fallout of recent conflicts and the instability affecting critical trade routes like the Strait of Hormuz, the UAE remains focused on advocating for a shift toward sustainable de-escalation, respect for national sovereignty, and an end to the uncertain “no war, no peace” state that has hindered regional progress.
