Small Aircraft Collides with Beijing’s Citic Tower
On Friday evening, a small aircraft—reportedly similar in size to a car—struck Beijing’s iconic Citic Tower, the city’s tallest skyscraper. Eyewitnesses near the central business district reported hearing a thunderous crash, describing the sound as significantly louder than fireworks. Following the impact, authorities quickly descended on the scene, cordoning off access roads and deploying dozens of police vehicles and fire trucks to secure the area surrounding the 108-story headquarters of the Citic Group.
The incident prompted an immediate and heavy-handed response from law enforcement, who actively worked to suppress information about the crash. Police were observed preventing bystanders from taking photos and ordering those who had already captured images or videos to delete them. Meanwhile, online censorship appeared to take hold quickly, as posts regarding the event were scrubbed from popular Chinese social media platforms like Xiaohongshu. Although two glass panels on an upper floor showed visible damage, officials have yet to provide a formal statement, leaving the full details of the collision shrouded in uncertainty.
