Devastating Earthquake Toll in Venezuela Reaches 4,333
National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez recently confirmed that the tragic earthquake sequence that hit Venezuela on June 24 has claimed the lives of 4,333 people. Among those identified, the authorities are still working to confirm the identities of 315 victims. While the number of injured remains steady at 16,740, the disaster has left roughly 17,000 citizens without a home, and 6,462 individuals have been successfully rescued from the rubble so far.
Recovery efforts are now shifting toward long-term support, with acting President Delcy Rodriguez set to distribute the first 200 homes to displaced families next week. Government assessments indicate that at least 25,000 new homes will be required to house those affected, as 190 buildings have either completely collapsed or sustained irreparable structural damage. Despite the scale of the destruction, search and rescue operations remain active at several sites where officials hope to find survivors, with the government already scouting 40 plots of land in Osma and Chuspa to jumpstart reconstruction projects.
