Egypt Launches Digital Visa System for Tourists

Mon, Aug 3, 2026(1h ago)World

If you are planning a trip to Egypt, navigating entry requirements has just become significantly easier. As of August 1, 2026, the country has launched a pilot program for an automated, electronic visa-on-arrival system at Cairo International Airport. This digital shift is designed to modernize the travel experience, replacing the traditional paper visa stickers with a convenient QR code. By allowing travelers to complete the process online or via self-service kiosks, the initiative aims to cut down on long wait times at immigration, ensuring visitors spend less time in queues and more time exploring the Grand Egyptian Museum, the North Coast, or the historic streets of Old Cairo.

To secure your entry, you can apply through the "Visa On Arrival" mobile app, the official government portal (Visaonarrival.gov.eg), or the new kiosks located at Cairo International Airport. After inputting your passport details and paying the $36 service fee, you will receive a QR code via email that remains valid for seven days. While the traditional paper system will remain temporarily alongside this digital option during the pilot phase, travelers are encouraged to embrace the new method for a smoother arrival. Please note that this streamlined service is currently intended strictly for tourism purposes and provides a 30-day, single-entry visa.
