800 Filipinos Repatriated from Malaysia as Enforcement Operations Intensify
A group of 800 Filipinos, including 122 children under the age of 12, recently arrived at the Zamboanga City Port after being deported from Malaysia. These individuals had been held in detention facilities across Sandakan, Papar, and Tawau before their return on October 30. Upon arrival, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) stepped in to provide immediate aid, including meals and temporary shelter at a local processing center, where officials are currently assessing the specific needs of each returnee to facilitate their eventual reintegration into their communities.
This mass repatriation is part of a broader crackdown by Malaysian authorities on undocumented migrants, which has seen over 5,000 Filipinos sent home from Sabah so far this year. With Malaysian officials aiming to clear detention centers to make room for further enforcement, they are pushing for faster processing of travel documents from foreign embassies. As repatriation efforts continue, the DSWD remains committed to working with partner agencies to ensure that these returning citizens receive the necessary support to safely reunite with their families after their transition home.
