An ammonia gas leak at an industrial facility in the southern Jordanian city of Aqaba left 11 people injured on Monday. Local officials confirmed that the incident took place during routine maintenance on aging pressure equipment. As a safety precaution, authorities initiated an immediate evacuation of the southern port area to protect workers and residents from potential exposure.

Nidal Al-Ouran, a commissioner with the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority, reported that the situation has since been contained. He noted that the injuries sustained by the victims ranged from minor to moderate and occurred at a site separate from residential zones. While the maintenance was being conducted on behalf of a Japanese company, authorities have stated that workers will only be permitted to return once final safety inspections and air quality checks confirm that the area is completely secure.
