The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has initiated legal proceedings against Nestle after testing revealed that certain baby food products failed to meet national quality standards. Specifically, regulators flagged a "follow-up formula" milk product for infants for being substandard regarding its biotin—or Vitamin B7—content, which fell outside the legally mandated range. Alongside this finding, the FSSAI has filed separate adjudication cases against Nestle for the NAN Excella Pro Stage 1 and Lactogen Pro 1 formulas, alleging that the company utilized misleading labeling practices.

Nestle India has firmly contested these claims, asserting that its products remain in full compliance with local regulations. The company maintained that its labels are factual, scientifically backed, and were previously reviewed by an FSSAI expert committee. This development has placed renewed pressure on the food giant, causing its shares in India to dip as the company navigates this heightened regulatory scrutiny. As India continues a broader crackdown on its massive food industry, this situation recalls the 2015 Maggi noodle controversy, marking yet another high-stakes clash between the Swiss conglomerate and Indian food safety authorities.
