North Korea Launches Another Ballistic Missile Amid Rising Regional Tensions

Sun, Sep 20, 2026(39m ago)World

North Korea conducted another ballistic missile test on Sunday, launching a projectile from the Wonsan area into the waters off its east coast. South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff confirmed the activity, prompting an immediate emergency security meeting in Seoul. Both the South Korean and Japanese governments have condemned the launch, labeling it a direct violation of UN Security Council resolutions. In response, military officials in Seoul have increased their surveillance and are coordinating closely with the United States and Japan to monitor for any follow-up provocations.

This latest move follows a period of heightened defiance from Pyongyang, which recently dismissed a United Nations nuclear watchdog resolution calling for an end to its atomic activities. North Korean leadership continues to assert that the country's status as a nuclear-armed state is permanent and irreversible, with high-ranking officials recently dismissing any efforts toward denuclearization as futile. As tensions continue to mount, international observers remain focused on the regime's growing arsenal, which some estimates suggest includes over 100 nuclear weapons.
