How an IIT Graduate Transformed India’s Laundry Industry into a Global Franchise
After an inspiring 2016 trip to Japan, IIT Bombay alumnus Arunabh Sinha and his wife, Gunjan Taneja, recognized a glaring gap in the Indian market. While 99% of India’s laundry sector remained reliant on traditional, unorganized "dhobis," the couple saw the potential for a modern, tech-enabled solution. Having previously managed hotel operations where poor linen quality was a persistent guest grievance, Sinha was determined to professionalize the experience. This vision led to the 2017 launch of UClean, a franchise-led brand that offers a "live laundry" service, allowing customers to watch their clothes being cleaned in real-time.
Today, UClean has evolved from a domestic startup into a global powerhouse with over 800 outlets across nine countries, including the UAE, Oman, and Ghana. Sinha has boldly expanded into unique frontier markets like Mongolia and Somalia, proving that the demand for professional laundry services is a universal need. By prioritizing innovation and reliability, the "laundry man of India" is not only scaling his business but also fostering entrepreneurship internationally, aiming to establish UClean as a dominant force in the Middle East and Africa by 2027.
