Beyond the Boardroom: Sharjah Uses Padel to Boost International Business Ties

Fri, Jul 3, 2026(45d ago)Business

Sharjah’s investment authority recently traded traditional office boardrooms for the competitive energy of the padel court, aiming to foster stronger commercial bonds with Brazilian and Portuguese enterprises. By hosting a unique networking event involving senior representatives from the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce, the Portuguese Business Council, and regional government officials, the emirate highlighted that business success is intrinsically linked to lifestyle and community engagement. According to Sheikh Fahim Al Qasimi, these informal sports sessions serve as a vital soft power tool, allowing executives to discuss policy hurdles and emerging opportunities in a relaxed environment that builds genuine rapport.

The initiative highlights a growing desire to deepen economic cooperation, with Sharjah already serving as a hub for 193 Brazilian and 267 Portuguese firms, primarily within the logistics and infrastructure sectors. Officials noted that the success of previous networking events, including a meeting with the American Chamber of Commerce, has paved the way for this sports-centric approach. Rafael Solimeo of the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce noted that for Brazilian investors, the combination of a thriving business ecosystem and the cultural familiarity of sports makes Sharjah an incredibly attractive destination, further solidifying the emirate's position as a key gateway for innovation and construction firms looking to expand into the UAE.
