Smaller UAE Insurers Outperform Market Giants in Recent Growth Surge
A fresh report from Badri Consultancy reveals an interesting shift in the UAE insurance landscape, with mid-sized and smaller firms significantly outperforming industry giants during the first half of 2026. While the country's five largest insurers saw a respectable 12 percent revenue growth, smaller players surged ahead with a 19 percent increase. This momentum propelled the entire industry to a collective net profit of Dh2.2 billion, reflecting a 12 percent year-on-year rise. Notably, the smaller firms saw their individual profits climb by 19 percent, while their core insurance operations—measured by premiums collected versus claims paid—skyrocketed by 45 percent, vastly eclipsing the 9 percent growth seen by the top-tier companies.
Despite the impressive operational gains among smaller insurers, the industry’s major players still held a distinct advantage in investment income, which grew by 26 percent compared to a 5 percent dip for smaller firms. However, experts remain optimistic about the sector's stability, noting that companies are currently maintaining disciplined pricing rather than engaging in reckless competition for market share. Looking ahead, industry leaders warn that while the sector remains robust, challenges such as rising motor repair costs, higher reinsurance premiums, and evolving regulatory capital requirements will necessitate continued focus on portfolio optimization and cautious underwriting to sustain this upward trajectory.
