Dubai International Airport Maintains Global Ranking as Passenger Traffic Nears 10 Billion
Dubai International Airport (DXB) has firmly held its ground as the second-busiest airport globally, managing 95.2 million passengers throughout 2025. According to data from Airports Council International, this figure represents a 3.1% increase from the previous year and significantly outperforms 2019 pre-pandemic levels. While the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport remains the world leader with 106.3 million travelers, the consistent growth at DXB underscores its vital role in the global aviation network. Tokyo Haneda followed in the third spot, while global passenger traffic overall climbed to 9.8 billion, nearing the historic 10-billion-passenger milestone.
Beyond passenger travel, Dubai continues to be a powerhouse for logistics, ranking 11th globally in cargo handling with 2.15 million metric tonnes processed in 2025. Across the globe, air freight rose by 3.3% as e-commerce and supply chain shifts fueled demand. Meanwhile, the Asia-Pacific region saw the most dramatic growth, with major hubs like Shanghai Pudong and Kuala Lumpur surging in the rankings due to better connectivity and infrastructure development. As total aircraft movements climb back to pre-pandemic heights, industry leaders warn that while demand is thriving, strategic investment remains essential to managing the mounting pressure on global aviation infrastructure.
