Samsung Electronics Sees Massive Profit Surge Driven by AI Demand

Fri, Jul 31, 2026(3h ago)Technology

South Korean tech giant Samsung Electronics has reported a staggering 19-fold increase in its second-quarter operating profit, largely fueled by the relentless global demand for memory chips essential to AI data centers. The company saw its operating profit climb to 89.5 trillion won, an 1,800 percent jump compared to last year, with revenue soaring 130 percent. While these record-breaking figures met market expectations, the broader tech landscape remains jittery, with investors questioning the sustainability of the current AI-driven market valuations.

Despite this volatility, Samsung remains optimistic, pointing to the expanding adoption of agentic AI and robust server infrastructure spending as key drivers for the coming years. CFO Park Soon-cheol indicated that the company expects a memory chip shortage to intensify through 2027, providing a stable outlook for their manufacturing pipeline. As Samsung leans into a major $200 billion collaboration with Broadcom and pushes forward with new fabrication facilities in the US and South Korea, analysts are closely watching whether the company can maintain this momentum or if the semiconductor supercycle will peak prematurely.
