With the upcoming release of iOS 18, Apple is finally tackling the long-standing clutter in the Photos app by introducing a dedicated "Captured by Me" collection. This highly requested feature automatically isolates photos and videos taken directly with the iPhone’s camera, effectively filtering out the digital noise caused by saved memes, screenshots, and downloaded media. Beyond this new gallery, Apple is enhancing organizational tools by adding an "Identity Documents" folder to automatically categorize sensitive items like passports and IDs, while also introducing custom keyword tagging and star ratings to help users manage massive photo libraries more efficiently.

The update also brings significant improvements to creativity and collaboration. Users can now craft sophisticated slideshows with customizable music, transitions, and timing, which can be exported as shareable videos. Shared Albums are becoming more versatile as well, offering full-resolution support and expanded access for Android and Windows users via iCloud.com. For those with compatible hardware, Apple Intelligence powers advanced editing capabilities like Spatial Reframing and an improved "Clean Up" tool, all supported by a system-wide boost in performance that allows photos to load up to 70 percent faster. These features are currently available in beta and will roll out to all supported devices later this fall.
