Take-Two Interactive Takes Legal Action to Unmask GTA VI Leaker
In a decisive move to protect its highly anticipated title, Rockstar Games’ parent company, Take-Two Interactive, has secured court-ordered subpoenas targeting Microsoft and Discord. Federal judges in New York recently approved these requests, compelling both tech giants to hand over user data linked to the recent, unauthorized leaks of Grand Theft Auto VI. By asserting copyright ownership over the compromised audiovisual content, artwork, and dialogue, Take-Two aims to identify the individuals behind the "Cyberleek" account, a group claiming their actions are a protest against the gaming industry's business models and pricing strategies.
The leak comes at a critical time for the publisher, as the global marketing campaign for the game—set in a Florida-inspired region—continues to build momentum ahead of the November 19 release. With the leaks circulating through GitHub and various Discord chatrooms, Take-Two is pushing for the disclosure of account details and user information from the forums where the material was shared. Microsoft and Discord are required to comply with these judicial mandates by September 4, as the company works to mitigate the impact on what is arguably the most awaited gaming launch in over a decade.
